For many of our timber framers the erection of the finished frame on site is the icing on the cake and brings to fruition many weeks of carefully crafted work in the framing yard. Unlike many of our competitors our teams take responsibility for a project from inception through to completion and our clients value the quality of craftsmanship this brings to the end product.
The craft of traditional timber frame construction is many hundreds of years old, however its resurgence as a building method in the last twenty years has received even greater impetus with the focus on sustainable building materials.
Carpenter Oak & Woodland are one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of large section structural timber frames. We are looking for a highly motivated and driven individual to lead the expansion of our Scottish operation. Whilst the successful candidate is likely to have a general knowledge of the construction industry it will be essential for them to have a proven track record of growing a business in a niche market.
The new Business Manager will be responsible for the day to day operation of the yard through a number of direct reports however the overriding objective is to raise the profile of the business in the North of England and Scotland to maximise its market share.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with a group of dedicated craftsman and to make a valuable contribution to the growth of a business operating in an interesting and rewarding market.
We are looking for an individual with excellent people skills who is confident in nurturing business to business and business to client relationships. They will need strong managerial skills and be capable of providing clear leadership and direction for our Scottish operation.

Our frame designers work closely with our customers, their architects and engineers to develop a unique timber frame for each project we undertake. From the production drawings produced by the designer each frame is fabricated in one of our framing yards by a team of dedicated craftsman. We are currently recruiting for timber frame designers. Ideally applicants will have a general understanding of construction and architectural principles, a practical knowledge of structures, have experience working with CAD software and most importantly a real interest in the use of heavy timber in structures.

We currently operate from three oak timber framing yards, two near Chippenham in Wiltshire, England and one near Kirriemuir, Angus, Scotland. With divisions specialising in new traditionally built green oak timber frames, the conservation of period oak timber frames and timber engineering we are able to offer a varied and rewarding career.
