Public buildings

The very nature of a public building is a place which people want to visit – and there’s no better choice to elevate a building beyond the purely functional than an oak timber frame.

Not only can oak timber-framed buildings be designed and built to a wide range of styles, but they can suit an almost endless variety of purposes, including:

  • art galleries
  • exhibition halls
  • golf clubs
  • museums
  • offices and workshops
  • religious buildings
  • school, university and college buildings

Purpose-designed oak timber frames, for purpose-designed buildings

Each and every Carpenter Oak & Woodland green oak timber frame is bespoke and built to the highest of standards, using traditional methods. Working with your architect, we can design and develop an oak timber frame which integrates perfectly with the architect’s design and vision: a building that’s designed around its purpose.

Experience of oak timber-framed buildings old and new

Our extensive work in conservation, restoration and repair (for example, we were responsible for the restoration of the famous lantern roof, following the fire at Windsor Castle) gives us a unique insight into how oak timber frames perform in public buildings over a long period of time. This experience helps us to develop oak frame buildings today which will last as long as some of the UK’s best- loved timber-framed buildings.
