Highfield is built in the style of a 17th century tithe barn but is none the less absolutely unique. Quality and craftsmanship were always high on the agenda and Felix didn’t want to compromise on the timber frame which took 21,000 man hours and 150 tons of oak to construct. Rest assured we plant up to 10 trees for every one we use and only use timber from sustainable sources. This became particularly important because sadly, on 28 March 1997, just three weeks before completion, Highfield burnt to the ground. Following careful and painful deliberation Felix decided to rebuild!
Completed timber frame building at Highfield
From the big oak frame down to the last stick of furniture everything that could be was hand crafted and the workmanship in the building is second to none. The crown post roof structure was particularly complicated, and unusually we erected parts of it in our framing yard prior to delivery to ensure everything went to plan on site.
