Brotherton Barn

Restoring the roof structure of a stone-built barn in Oxfordshire.

This barn in Oxfordshire is largely stone built but the substantial elm roof had suffered from damp and rot in a number of key locations to the extent that one of the roof trusses had completely collapsed. To add an interesting twist the name of the original owner William Brotherton Esquire is engraved on the tie beam of the failed truss and the new owner was understandably very keen to keep it.

Following an initial site visit we conducted a full conservation survey and subsequently produced a report itemising each and every repair and the methodology to the overall project.

The roof structure is now fully restored to its former glory and the tie beam with the engraving on it repaired and once again serving its structural purpose.  Following power washing to remove years of agricultural grime the roof will really enhance the first floor rooms of a stunning home.
