Sandroyd School – Performing Arts Centre

The new Performing Arts Centre for Sandroyd School in Wiltshire had some immediate similarities to one of our previous projects at Bedales School in Hampshire.

Project background

Most of the transverse cross frames have an unsupported span of over 18m and the whole frame is built from over 25 tonnes of green Douglas fir.

Timber frames that go beyond the norm are not uncommon for us, so when we were approached earlier this year to make a frame for a building that had been designed for a steel frame, we were only too pleased to bring our expertise to the project team.

The architect was extremely pleased that the building could be timber framed and the quantity surveyor was pleasantly surprised that it could be done within his budget.

This sizable frame has been constructed in our English timber framing yard over the last few months and will go to site for erection early in the new year.
