We are currently have a crew busy in our timber framing yard in Scotland cutting an aisled oak frame for a project near Athenry in the Republic of Ireland. The client initially took his inspiration from a magazine article on another project of ours and then from leafing through images of oak frames on our website.
The frame is on target to go to site in the middle of June.
The oak cross frames are internal and take the load of oak common rafters, which are supported on runs of purlins on each side of the roof. At either end of the extension the purlins run into the masonry which help carry the roof load at these locations. This is an example of how we often use other elements of the structure in conjunction with the oak frame to help achieve clients’ concepts.
Our Scottish carpentry crews are becoming extremely well travelled, having previously coped with the logistical challenges of completing projects not only in Ireland, and the rest of the UK, but also as far fetched as the Outer Hebrides and Holland.
