Jubilee Pavilion, Queen’s Park, Crewe

Funded by Cheshire East Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund and The National Lottery, the building of the Jubilee Pavilion is just part of an overall £6.5m project to restore Queen’s Park in Crewe.

We’re really delighted to have won this demanding project, worth around £200,000, which is an example of the kind of work that really sets Carpenter Oak & Woodland apart. To give you an idea of some of the construction challenges, it includes timbers that are so large their construction would be beyond the abilities of many companies. Some of the timbers are 9 metres long x 450mm x 150mm. Weighing in at more than a ton apiece, these cost in excess of £1,000 each. The frame is a hybrid structure – using a mixture of traditional joints (between the frame members) and stainless steel bracing (to give the structure rigidity).

Timber yard in ScotlandThis photograph, taken in our timber yard, shows the sheer size of the timbers used.

We’re working with CCB Evolution, a company with whom we have a great relationship and very successful track record. CCB Evolution has a very good understanding of working with timber structures and together we’ve created some really fantastic buildings.

The building design is dramatic – using timber, glass and steel to great effect – creating an exciting open space. You can find out a little more about how this project is progressing from the Queen’s Park Crewe website.
