The New Wood Architecture

The New Wood Architecture documents the increased awareness amongst architects internationally of the benefits of building in wood. It covers thirty timber built schemes by progressive architectural practices and looks at how the buildings have derived their special character from wood.

How our work is featured

In 1993 Carpenter Oak & Woodland were commissioned to design a new performing arts theatre for Bedales School in Hampshire.  In partnership with Fielden Clegg Architects we formed the Oak Design Group specifically to create a design that would make a strong statement about the environmental view that should be embodied in architecture.  Featuring full page colour photographs, plans and detailed sketches of the engineered jointing system, the book describes the design principles and construction approach to the Olivier Theatre.
