In the October Issue 2008 there is an article detailing a brief between client and architect to create a contemporary cottage with green credentials and architectural merit. This comes in the form of “2 Bruce Cottages” and perhaps the single most important element of the design is the green oak frame designed and erected by Carpenter Oak & Woodland Ltd. The architect Alistair Baird explained that he particularly liked the oak frame option because one of the great benefits is that the external walls are non-load bearing enabling him to play around with the interior walls and living space creating a fluid layout which means the property has an unusual depth of character unlike some eco friendly houses.
The client wished to invite visitors during “Fife’s Open Doors Day” event last summer to show how “Bruce Cottages” highlights the importance that environmentally sensitive designs can be sympathetic not only to their surroundings but the people who live in them.
