Carpenter Oak and Woodland are featured in the 29th March 2008 edition of the Telegraph magazine in an article called “The Cedar House Rules “by Stephen Lacey. With the demise of the Prince of Wales Highgrove Estate’s beloved 200 year old cedar tree came the opportunity for a substantial new structure to be incorporated with the cedar’s stump that would not only celebrate the trees’ life but bring a new presence in the landscape. Carpenter Oak and Woodland constructed the oak frame off-site which came from the Duchy of Cornwall woodland in Herefordshire. Oak had been advised to use as the cedar was full of knots (imperfections that weakens wood). Oak shakes were used to tile the roof which in the design had to have a hole on one side to accommodate an oak seedling and one branch was retained to allow the Prince to continue to hang his oriental birdfeeders.
