Barn style oak frame house, Wiltshire

Carpenter Oak & Woodland have been designing and making new barn style oak framed houses for twenty years and this particular home in Wiltshire is a really nice example.

Project background

In this case the relatively narrow proportions of the building, the simple queen post trusses and the external timber cladding contribute to the feeling of a renovated period barn. In fact the building is new but it sits on one edge of a courtyard which is also bounded by a listed thatched barn on which we undertook fairly extensive conservation and restoration work.
On the ground floor the property has a large central sitting room, kitchen and bedroom. At each end of the fully vaulted sitting room the one an half storey format accommodates a mezzanine floor providing a study and an additional bedroom.
