Well known for its appearance on Channel 4 Grand Designs this contemporary house with views over the Isle of Aran blends a modern interpretation of a cruck frame with stainless steel fixtures.
Tony and Jo Moffet, both musicians with Scottish Opera, found this idyllic location with amazing views on the edges of the Clyde in Argyll and Bute. Clearly they were never going to be satisfied with a traditionally framed house so in collaboration with Carpenter Oak & Woodland, architect Andy McAvoy developed this contemporary timber framed building. The design makes extensive use of heavy green oak cruck cross frames but unusually these are supported on substantial stainless steel shoes and instead of oak pegs, stainless steel pins have been used to provide an additional twist.
