Oak frames lend themselves well to a one and half storey design. By using an interrupted tie beam which can be seen in the photograph of the dining room (left), access through the main roof trusses can be provided. This layout gives a real sense of living within the oak frame rather than having it set back against flat walls and ceilings. By making all the roof timbers from oak including the smaller common rafters you can create a much more ‘timber intense’ feeling. This can of course vary from room to room providing a different ambience in each.
