The Olivier Theatre at Bedales college in Petersfield, Hampshire uses a combination of post and beam timber frame construction with a contemporary jib and cotter jointing system
The performing arts centre at Bedales college was designed and built in collaboration with Feilden Clegg Architects. A combination of joint types have been used in the primary structure, both traditional pegged mortice and tenons and a jib and cotter system comprising steel flitch plates and wedges. This adds enormously to the overall aesthetic and ensures that the theatre complements the arts and crafts style of the existing college buildings. The exterior is largely timber clad with extensive use of glass to bring light into the entrance foyer.
